Shep on Fishing: Take your pick of flounder, blues, bonito and more
Posted: Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Returning from a successful run aboard the Tail Dancer to Lindenkohl Canyon on Saturday are, from left, Shirley Fowler, Stan Iwanowski, Barbara Gates, Jared Iwanowski, kneeling, and captain Jim Fowler. Their haul included yellowfin tuna from 80-120 pounds, plus one white marlin and eight mahi. Gates is from Absecon, the other four from Brigantine.
Barbara Gates of Absecon fished the Lindenkohl Canyon on Saturday with Brigantine residents Shirley Fowler, Stan and Jared Iwanowski, and captain Jim Fowler on the Tail Dancer. They trolled big ballyhoo and picked up three yellowfin tuna in the 80- to 100-pound class, one white marlin and eight mahi. Some of the mahi were caught jigging.
We seem to be holding in a mid-summer pattern that features flounder and offshore fishing with triggerfish, bluefish, bonito and weakfish in support.
If this is the summer doldrums, it does not appear to be too bad.
